About the Company
Modern Meadow Biofabricated Materials began with an initiative to develop a sustainable alternative to leather. They created Zoa™ after six years of research and development and unveiled a graphic t-shirt made from Zoa at MoMA in 2017. Further development led to the creation of Bio-Alloy™ and its application in a wide range of biofabricated materials. In 2021, Modern Meadow announced the joint venture BioFabbrica with the Italian luxury supplier Limonta
Material
Bio-Alloy™
Technology
Modern Meadow uses yeast to grow collagen protein in a process similar to insulin production and beer brewing. By putting the code for the desired protein into yeast and giving the yeast the necessary nutrients, the yeast is turned into a protein factory. After the fermented collagen proteins are purified, they are assembled into sheets that can be made into leather-like products.
Applications
Bio-Alloy™ technology can be applied in a range of biofabricated materials.
