About the Company

Fruitonauts’ is a material company that has the mission to redefine the meaning of 'natural leather’ with a natural 'fruity' sensory experience. The company's aim is to change the way that customers think of leather, and show that a high-performance material can be made from fruit peels instead of animal hides. Their goal is UN SDGs 12 and 13.

Material

The company’s material called “Fruitazing” is a next-gen leather that uses up to 95% fruit biomass and other non-toxic organic compounds, carefully chosen and prepared by Fruitonauts’ Engineering Team. Their flagship material is made of upcycled food waste coming from the citrus fruit processing industry. It looks, feels, and has the scent of fresh citrus fruit, and is biodegradable and scalable. They were finalists of the Red Dot Award Design Concept of 2022.

Technology

Fruitnauts’ technology uses natural fruit biomass, organic biopolymers, elastomers, and binders. These are all combined in a time, energy, and cost-effective proprietary process of mixing, binding, cutting, and molding into the client's desired form.

Applications

Fashion, Accessories, Footwear, Furniture, Home Decor, Automotive Interiors.
