Location: Remote; with a preference for the United States or Europe

About Us

We are a small team of dedicated nonprofit professionals who are accelerating the development of high performance, animal-free, and more sustainable materials for the fashion, automotive, and home goods industries. The organization is a little over two years old and is quickly growing its connections with fashion, automotive, and home goods brands.

Position Description


We are looking for someone to lead our partnerships with fashion, automotive, and home goods companies and nonprofits. This person must be passionate about our mission and can expand our relationships with brands with the help of our scientific and innovation teams. While we have a strategy in place for our work with the fashion, automotive, and home goods industries , we want someone in this position who can review the strategy and provide expert guidance for changes and then execute. While this position is currently the only position in the department, we imagine growing the team with an assistant within the first year with additional growth depending on revenue.

In this role, you will lead the organization’s sales and relationship team with the fashion, automotive, and home goods industries (“Brands”). You will lead the development of our strategy with Brands and develop a strong pipeline of MII Corporate Sponsors, bringing on new Corporate Sponsors to expand MII revenue streams and serving as the client management lead for Corporate Sponsors. Our brand engagement department is both an education and service role, providing Brands with information needed to move into next-gen materials, as well as a source of revenue for the organization. The Chief Partnership Officer will be responsible for:

  • Manage all aspects of MII’s work with Brands, including supervising staff, overseeing department spending, and providing visionary leadership.

  • Develop, implement, and oversee a partnership strategic plan including a pricing and marketing plan for MII’s work with brands designed to advance the interests of the organization with Brands.

  • Research Brands to establish a strong pipeline of new Corporate Sponsors.

  • Conduct outreach to new Brands to provide them with information about next-gen materials and encourage them to join as Corporate Sponsors.

  • Serve as the face of MII with brands by managing all relationships with Brands and presenting MII’s standard powerpoint deck describing why next-gen materials, overview of technologies and companies, and market status and growth. Keep MII’s Powerpoint up to date with new industry developments. 

  • Serve as lead contact and client relationship manager with existing Corporate Sponsors and manage their relationship with the rest of the MII staff (e.g. questions between a client and our science or innovation teams).

  • Keep up to date on market trends to be able to intelligently discuss industry developments with Brands and understand their business challenges.

  • Work with the Chief Innovation Officer and Chief Science and Technology Officer to understand the status and products of next-gen material companies in order to intelligently match them with our Corporate Sponsors. 

  • Collaborate with Environmental Data Scientist to gain deep understanding of the impacts of next-gen materials to communicate with Brands and Corporate Sponsors and integrate into educational materials and presentations.

  • Maintain records of all communications in our CRM system including engagements with brands and corporate sponsors including keeping track of leads, opportunities, and communications. We currently use a CRM, Copper, which pulls in data from email and calendar invitations automatically. 

  • Maintain all Corporate Sponsor reports including a record of which companies to which we have introduced them, any consulting hours spent on each account, public mentions of their brand as part of their sustainability promotion, notification timing for new innovators, service agreement contracts, contract extensions, and any additional client documentation. 

  • Draft and oversee the production of our annual Brand Engagement Report.

  • Coordinate with MII’s Chief Operating Officer to ensure MII receives all payments under the contracts.

  • Maintain good relationships with industry and cause-related nonprofits who can provide MII with introductions to Brands. 

  • Assist in creating and monitoring the department's annual budget.

  • Performing other duties as agreed upon from time to time.


Who We’re Looking For 

We are currently looking for a chief partnership officer to establish and grow our work integrating next-gen materials into the fashion, automotive, and home goods industries as well as secure a strong revenue stream for MII. The person in this position must have:


  • A proven track record of developing strategic plans for revenue growth.

  • At least 10 years experience in the fashion industry, as a consultant, or in sales is strongly preferred.

  • Experience in material science and engineering is a plus. 

  • ​​Knowledge in sustainability, and the environmental impacts of the fashion, automotive and home goods industries is a plus

  • Understanding that innovation takes time and how businesses make complex decisions. 

  • Experience with market & trend research with ability to educate and translate data for mixed audiences is a plus

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Very well organized with strong project management skills

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously. 

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 

  • Good with people - strong stakeholder engagement & relationship building skills  

  • Strategic and visionary (future) team builder. 

  • Strong support for MII’s philosophy, mission, and values.
