About the Company

Formerly Citrique Belge, Citribel is an independent company located in Belgium with 100 years of history in the production of citric acid through the natural surface fermentation of sugar molasses. Today the company is an industrial producer and innovative specialist in various bioprocesses and has a wide variety of natural products for different applications. In 2022 the company launched MycaNova®.

Material

MycaNova® is a next-gen leather made from 64% bio-based material, mycelium powder, natural or recycled base materials, and bio-based PU.

Technology

First, sugar molasses is fermented to produce citric acid. Then the mycelium, a by-product of the fermentation process, is harvested. In the third step, the mycelium is dried and ground, generating a distinctive mycelium powder. Finally, the powder is combined with various binders and support materials, creating MycaNova®.
