About the Company
Founded by Jeroen Muijsers in 2014, Flocus produces fibers made from kapok, the cotton-like fluff from the seed pods of the tropical tree of the same name. Muijsers is a pioneer in the production of these fibers and continues to innovate in this space.
Material
Flocus produces fibers, yarn and yarn blends, fabrics, and fillings made with kapok. Kapok fibers can be used on their own as a down alternative and can be blended with other fibers to create new fabrics.
Technology
Kapok fibers are harvested and processed and then sent to other production facilities depending on the end product. Fibers undergo fewer processing steps when used as a down alternative insulation.
Applications
As a down alternative, Flocus is suitable for use in home and outdoor goods such as comforters and sleeping bags as well as in outerwear and performance clothing. Photos show fibers on kapok tree and after processing.
