About the Company

Sacha Laurin was developing her career as a professional cheesemaker when she started from fermenting milk with bacteria and yeast to fermenting green tea with SCOBYs (Symbiotic Colony of Yeast and Bacteria). In founding Kombucha Jewelry and Couture, Sacha began promoting next-gen materials and textiles as alternatives to leather, silk, and others.

Material

Kombucha Jewelry and Couture textile is made from a fermented tea-grown colony of Scobys.

Technology

Kombucha Couture fabric and clothing are made with fermenting tea using a Kombucha mother culture (SCOBY) and then growing sheets of bio-cellulose that can be sewn and become leather-like material. Then it is customized in the desired thicknesses and size before removing it from its liquid nest and placed in the sun to dry, using essential oils to protect and nourish.

Applications

Fashion, accessories, footwear.
